Dr James Siow Wei Xuan is a fellowship trained Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with 17 years of clinical experience. His practice centres on foot and ankle surgery for conditions such as bunions, lesser toe deformities, tendon and ligament injuries, arthritis, fractures, and complex deformities. When surgery is needed, treatment can include minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and keyhole techniques for selected conditions, or open reconstruction and revision surgery where the problem is more complex. Across both, care is focused on addressing the condition while restoring movement, stability, function, and return to activity.
This clinical scope is supported by a strong academic and surgical foundation. Dr James Siow obtained his Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2009. He later became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2013, completed his Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery at NUS in 2018, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) of Edinburgh in 2019.
After completing his specialist training, Dr James Siow further refined his subspecialty practice through a Foot and Ankle Surgery Fellowship at Inselspital in Bern, Switzerland, from 2021 to 2022, under the Ministry of Health (MOH) Singapore Human Manpower Development Programme scholarship. The fellowship provided focused exposure to advanced reconstruction and complex foot and ankle conditions. He later held responsibility within the Foot and Ankle Surgery service at Woodlands Hospital. Together, these experiences shape his practice at Oxford Orthopaedics, where clinical findings and imaging are considered alongside the patient’s symptoms and functional needs to determine whether non-surgical care remains appropriate or surgery should be considered, and which approach is best suited to the condition.
Dr James Siow has a strong interest in bunion and forefoot surgery, with MIS used where appropriate to correct bunions, hammer toes, and related deformities. His practice also covers complex and revision foot procedures, where open surgery might be required to achieve the necessary correction while limiting disruption to the surrounding tissues.
Because these conditions vary in structure and severity, treatment is planned around more than the visible deformity. Symptoms, alignment, joint condition, and foot function are considered together to determine whether non-surgical care remains appropriate and, where correction is needed, which surgical approach is best suited to the problem.
Alongside his work in foot surgery, Dr James Siow also manages a wide range of ankle conditions requiring specialist assessment and surgical care. His experience includes ankle sprains, instability, and trauma, with surgical care ranging from ankle arthroscopy and cartilage procedures to ligament reconstruction for syndesmotic, deltoid, and multi ligament injuries, as well as complex ankle reconstruction.
Across this range of ankle conditions, the treatment goal depends on the structures involved and the extent of damage. Where joint preservation remains appropriate, surgery might focus on restoring stability or alignment. When arthritis is more advanced, ankle fusion or total ankle replacement would be considered, with the approach guided by the function the patient needs to regain.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr James Siow remains actively involved in orthopaedic education. He has held teaching appointments with the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and the NUS Clinical Faculty System. Through these roles, he has contributed to the training of medical students and orthopaedic residents, sharing clinical and surgical knowledge from his specialist practice.
His teaching is supported by continued professional development in foot and ankle surgery, including further training in total ankle replacement, MIS foot and ankle surgery, and forefoot deformity correction. Together, these reflect his continued commitment to the advancement of specialist care in this field.
Away from the clinic, Dr James Siow enjoys pursuits that keep him active while giving him time to recharge. Running, badminton, and tennis form an important part of this routine, while music offers a quieter contrast. He has played the piano for many years and enjoys pieces across pop, classical music, and hymns. Family remains central to his life, and he values the time spent with his wife and two children, particularly as he sees them develop their own interests in sports and music. Together, these parts of his life reflect the same steadiness, care, and commitment that shape his work as an orthopaedic surgeon.
