Dr James Siow Wei Xuan
(萧伟轩医生)

Dr James Siow is a fellowship trained Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in foot and ankle surgery. He manages a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, with particular interest in bunion surgery, ankle surgery, deformity correction, and complex foot and ankle reconstruction. His practice also includes the use of minimally invasive techniques (MIS) where appropriate, particularly in areas where this can support recovery and function.

He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2009. He later went on to earn Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2013, followed by a Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery from NUS in 2018, before obtaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) of Edinburgh in 2019.

Building on this foundation, Dr Siow further advanced his subspecialty training through a full year Foot and Ankle Fellowship at Inselspital in Bern, Switzerland, from 2021 to 2022 under the Ministry of Health (MOH) Singapore Human Manpower Development Programme scholarship. This fellowship gave him focused exposure to complex foot and ankle reconstruction, further strengthening his expertise in this field.

Minimally Invasive Bunion & Foot Surgery

Dr Siow has a strong interest in MIS foot surgery, particularly in the correction of bunions and other forefoot conditions. Where appropriate, he uses smaller incision and arthroscopic techniques designed to reduce soft tissue disruption while supporting recovery, function, and earlier return to daily activities.

His foot practice also includes deformity correction, toe conditions, foot arthroscopy, joint preservation work, and complex reconstructive procedures. As a result, treatment planning is guided not only by the visible deformity or source of pain, but also by longer term alignment, mechanics, and foot function.

Alongside his work in foot surgery, Dr Siow also manages a wide range of ankle conditions requiring specialist assessment and surgical care. His experience includes ankle instability, ankle ligament reconstruction, ankle arthroscopy, cartilage procedures, trauma, and more advanced reconstructive surgery.

His practice also includes foot and ankle fusion, joint preservation procedures, and total ankle replacement, allowing his surgical approach to be tailored to the condition, severity, and functional goals of each patient. Where possible, the aim is not only to address pain or instability, but also to restore movement, alignment, and confidence in the ankle.

Alongside clinical practice, Dr Siow remains actively involved in orthopaedic education. He has held teaching and educator appointments with Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and the NUS Clinical Faculty System, reflecting his continued role in training future doctors and contributing to academic orthopaedics.

This sits alongside ongoing professional development in foot and ankle surgery, including further training in total ankle replacement, MIS foot and ankle surgery, and forefoot deformity correction. Together, these reflect his continued commitment to advancing specialist care in this field.

Dr James Siow enjoys a range of pursuits that keep him active and engaged. He is a committed runner, and also spends time on the badminton and tennis court, where focus, discipline, and consistency matter. Music has long been part of his life, and he plays the piano across genres ranging from pop and classical to hymns, drawn to the patience and precision it requires. At home, he is a devoted husband and father of two, and takes particular joy in seeing his children grow up with the same love for sport and music. These aspects of his life reflect the same steadiness, care, and commitment that define him as a surgeon.
